JOHN DEERE 4030
Megan, Morgan, Harold and I restored this tractor form Jan 2008 to
June 2008. It had recently had the engine and Transmission rebuilt, so all
it lacked was external things. We started by several hours of cleaning at
the car wash. We had the starter rebuilt, replaced the alternator, and had
new battery cables made. Then replaced and updated the whole ac system to
134a. We replaced several gages and a new fuel sending unit, repaired and
painted the dash and rewired some of the lights. Installed a new
upholstery upper and lower cab kit. Installed a new kenwood cd stereo and
speakers. We had John Deere adjust the rock shaft and rebuild the hydraulic
remotes. Then in June we prepped and painted it with automotive urethane
John Deere paint. Loader: we had the
cylinders rebuilt, replaced all the pins, then stripped the old paint and
repainted with automotive urethane John Deere paint.
Then we farmed and bailed hay with it all summer and it worked great!

JOHN DEERE 4020 Propane
We bought this tractor from my neighbor Bryan, because we needed its quick detach loader for the above 4030 tractor. He had it for several years, but it would not start unless you pulled it, so it did not get much use. We had the starter and generator rebuilt and replaced the battery cables, but it still would not start. We then changed all the fluids and gave it a tune-up, but it still would not start. Then we took it to John Deere and had the propane system rebuilt, then it started like a dream and ran great! Then on spring break 2008 we took it all back apart and painted it with John Deere paint. With the price of diesel in the summer of 2008, I should have kept it for the summer and used it as much as possible, because propane was only $2.25/gal and Diesel was over $4.00.
Megan and Morgan are great at sanding, wiping & taping.
