Magness Quarter horses
John and Julie Magness

A little about us:
Julie and I have been in the breeding business since 1996.  We both work very hard and take the horse  business serious.  Julie is an accountant and I am a high school computer and math teacher.

Three Key to our Success:

"Make God your partner and make your plans BIG", Morgan FreemanJulie and I have been blessed by God to own some really great horses.  We know that it was not by our ability, but a blessing from GOD.  We view our business as if  the horses are owned by someone else (GOD)  and we are only  hired employees to manage and care for them.

" The only thing you must do absolutely right is in the horse business is: have good horses", Jerry Wells.  We have ways put the majority of our effort into just that: having great horses.  We all know people who have fancy farms, big horse trailers and new trucks, but are not successful.  There are people in the Horse Industry who have been rude, dishonest, or bad business people, but have been tolerated, because they had good horses.

"Breed them when they are in and feed them when they are out", Morgan Freeman.  This quote seems to over simplify the breeding business, but when it comes right down to it, this is what counts

Our Testimony
Julie and I risked everything we owned and had worked for when we bought Bold Me Over.  We paid $25,000. for Bold Me Over and everyone in this part of the country came to see the horse and the idiot that paid that much money for a horse.  We knew that we had to breed a lot of mares to him and in a hurry.  On the 15th of March 1996 (the first year with him) we had only bred 5 mares to him and we were under tremendous stress and the barn was empty.  I sat down on a bail of  hay in the barn and prayed to God with tears in my eyes and told him that the business was his.   I gave him back the business and agreed to give him all the credit for any success.  With in seven days we had twenty three mares in the barn and thirteen were in heat at one time.

Breeding goal: To get mares in foal quickly  with the least expense to our customers as possible.   Julie and I understand what it is like to be on the mare owners end of the relationship.  Julie and I  try to always look at every situation from our customers view first and do what is fair every time.

Stallion goal:  To provide stallions that are the best  value for our customer as possible.  The horse market is very complicated.  It is hard to produce a horse that can be successful in the show ring and the sale ring.  We try to market our stallions so that they are a good breeding value for our customers.

Great horses are like great people -- they both have great mothers!

Produce goal: To produce the ultimate "All Around" or "Usin Horse" (as we call them here in Oklahoma, great looking, correct, cow sense, with a lot of speed and athleticism).
